What to expect
1
Our Initial Consultation
Let’s talk. You’ve got questions and concerns, so let’s sit down and discuss what’s bothering you. Let us know if there’s a special event, like a wedding, reunion or some other special occasion that you’re looking forward to and when it’s happening. If your concern is more medical in nature, like stress or urge incontinence, vaginal dryness or postpartum diastasis recti, let us know that as well. We can address those issues, provide you relief and make you much more comfortable.2
The Exam
After we talk, we’ll head into an exam room for a thorough exam and evaluation. We’re there to find out what bothers you, so please let us know everything that concerns you. That way, we can address all your issues and get a more complete picture of what you would like and how we can go about it.3
Our Review
Afterwards, you’ll get dressed and we’ll talk about your situation and expectations. We’ll discuss your options, from Kegel’s and creams to the latest treatment modalities.4
Our Recommendations
Based on your feedback and answers to a few more questions, we’ll let you know our recommendations. There may be several options for you and we’ll make sure to cover the issues and benefits of each.5
Your Opinion
We respect your opinion. After all, it’s your body and your life. We’re here to help in any way we can and to present you with the broadest array of options that we believe are available. We will offer you our opinions and suggestions. But at the end of the day, it’s your decision as to what’s right for you. If there’s someone else you’d like to discuss your options with, by all means, make sure you speak with them and that you are comfortable with your decision.6
Finances
If finances are an issue, we can discuss your options. Among other things, we offer Care Credit and can typically let you know what’s available very quickly. We take all major credit cards and can break treatment packages into their component parts so you can pay as you go, if that helps.7
Moving Forward
If you choose to move forward with one of our recommendations, we will schedule your appointment, whether it’s a single session or multi-part protocol. We will provide you instructions for pre and post procedure behavior. This may include avoiding sun exposure for a few days and instructions to apply a sun-block of 30 SPF or greater for a specified time.8
Before and After
With your permission, we will take pictures before we begin your treatment, then at each stage of the process and once again after your treatment is complete so that we can fully document your progress. We find that your results will continue to improve over time and sometimes tend to “sneak up” on you after six months or a year.9
Your Pre-Treatment Protocol
On the day of your treatment, we’ll have you come into our office. We’ll meet briefly to go over the details of your procedure and what to expect. If you are ready to move forward, we will have you sign a consent form. Then, if an anesthetizing agent is required, we will apply it and set a timer to ensure it has time to act before we proceed. At the appropriate time we will begin.10
Your Treatment
Typically the actual treatment will take as little as 10 minutes to just over an hour to complete. Once you are finished, we will make sure you are comfortable and know what to expect over the next few hours and days. We will provide you with instructions to cover what you can and cannot do immediately following your procedure. We will make sure you know how to get in touch with us in the event you have any questions or concerns. Nothing we do during your procedure should prevent you from driving yourself home once you are dressed and ready to go. If this visit is one of several for your treatment protocol, we will schedule your follow-up exam and next procedure before you go.11
Follow-Up
We will monitor your progress to check that everything has gone as planned and ensure that we have met or exceeded your expectations. Our goal is for you to be delighted with your results. We will also discuss what to expect as time passes and give you an idea of possible next steps, whether that’s on a one, three or five year horizon.12
